Everything you need to know about using EasyWorkflows plugins on your website.

How do I embed a plugin on my website?

Every EasyWorkflows plugin embeds with two lines of HTML. First, add the JavaScript loader script once in your page (ideally before </body>). Then place a <div> tag with the plugin's data attribute wherever you want it to appear. Your plugin ID is found in the EasyWorkflows dashboard under the plugin's settings. Click How to embed a plugin at the top of this page for a step-by-step example.

Do I need a developer or coding knowledge?

No. All plugins are configured entirely through the EasyWorkflows dashboard. Embedding only requires copy-pasting two short HTML snippets — no PHP, JavaScript knowledge, or server access is needed. If you use a page builder like Elementor, Divi, or Joomla's default editor, you can paste the code directly into an HTML block.

Can I use the same plugin on multiple pages or websites?

Yes. You can create multiple plugin instances — each with its own settings, styling, and content — and embed them independently on as many pages as you like. For domain restrictions, you can lock a plugin instance to only load on specific domains from the plugin's settings tab.

Will the plugins slow down my website?

No. The embed script loads asynchronously, so it never blocks your page render. Each plugin's assets are loaded on demand, only when the embed tag is present on the page. Plugins that pull external data (RSS feeds, Google Reviews, YouTube) use server-side caching to avoid repeated API calls.

How do I style a plugin to match my brand?

Each plugin has a dedicated Styling tab in the dashboard where you can set colors, fonts, border radius, shadows, and more — no CSS required. For advanced customization, you can add your own CSS via the Custom CSS field in the settings. Changes take effect immediately without re-embedding.

Is there a limit to how many plugins I can create?

The number of plugin instances you can create depends on your subscription plan. Each plan specifies a plugin limit per type. You can always upgrade your plan from the EasyWorkflows dashboard if you need more instances. The demo versions of all plugins are available to try for free without an account.

Are the plugins GDPR compliant?

Yes. Plugins that collect personal data (Form Builder, Digital Download, Appointment Booker) include a configurable privacy/consent checkbox. No personal data is shared with third parties by EasyWorkflows itself. AI plugins send only the content you configure (e.g. a chat message) to the selected AI provider — no visitor identity data is included. Use the Cookie Banner plugin to manage visitor consent for third-party services on your site.

What happens if I delete a plugin instance?

If you delete a plugin instance from the dashboard, the embed code on your website will stop rendering — the placeholder <div> will simply remain empty and invisible. No error is shown to visitors. Submission data and conversation logs associated with that instance are also removed. This action cannot be undone, so export any data you need first.

Can I use AI plugins without my own API key?

Some AI features work with EasyWorkflows' shared API quota on lower plans. For production use with higher volumes, you can connect your own API key (OpenAI, Groq, Anthropic) in the plugin's AI Settings tab. Using your own key gives you full control over the model, rate limits, and costs.

How do I get support if something isn't working?

Open a support ticket from the EasyWorkflows dashboard via Help → Support. Include your plugin ID, the page URL where it's embedded, and a description of the issue. For urgent issues, you can also reach us via the live chat widget in the dashboard. We typically respond within one business day.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues & Error Messages

Most issues can be resolved in under a minute. Start with the error message or symptom that matches your situation.

Error The plugin does not appear on my page — the embed div is empty

Most likely cause: The loader script is missing or blocked.

Check that the <script src="/…/ewf-embed.js"> tag is present on the page — it must be loaded before or after the embed div, but on the same page.
Open your browser DevTools → Console. If you see a 404 Not Found error on the script URL, the media file path is wrong. Verify the URL points to your actual Joomla installation.
Check DevTools → Network for any blocked requests (ad blocker, CSP header, or firewall rule).
Verify that the plugin instance is set to Active in the EasyWorkflows dashboard.

Error Console: "Domain not allowed"

Domain restriction is active on this plugin instance and the current domain is not on the allowlist.

Go to the plugin's Settings → Advanced → Allowed Domains in the dashboard.
Add your domain exactly as it appears in the browser address bar — without https:// and without a trailing slash. Example: mywebsite.com
Subdomains must be listed separately: shop.mywebsite.com is not covered by mywebsite.com unless you add both.
Leave the field empty to allow all domains.
Changes take effect immediately — no re-embed needed.

Error Console: "Bug Reporter not found" / "Plugin not found"

The embed key or slug in your script tag does not match any active plugin in the database.

Double-check the data-key and data-bugreporter (or equivalent data-ewf-plugin) values against what's shown in your dashboard under Embed → Embed Code.
A common mistake is copy-pasting an old embed from a deleted plugin instance. Delete the old snippet and copy a fresh one from the dashboard.
Verify the plugin's Active toggle is ON — inactive plugins are not served to the embed script.

Error Console: "Invalid request" or API returns success: false

The API call is missing required parameters or the request is malformed.

Inspect the failing network request in DevTools → Network. Check the full URL — the key and slug query parameters must not be empty.
If either data-key or data-bugreporter/data-ewf-plugin attribute is missing from the script/div tag, the embed script cannot build the API URL correctly.
Ensure no JavaScript minifier or HTML optimizer on your site is stripping data-* attributes.

Error CORS error in the browser console

The browser is blocking the API request because the response is missing the correct Access-Control-Allow-Origin header.

This usually means the request is reaching the server but Joomla is returning an HTML error page (e.g. 403 or 500) instead of JSON. Check your server error log.
If your Joomla site is behind a proxy or CDN, make sure CORS headers are not being stripped.
Check that setCorsHeaders() is called at the top of the relevant API trait method — it should run before any output.
If the site is on localhost or a staging domain, verify the allowed origins in your server config include the embedding domain.

Error Joomla 403 Forbidden when submitting a form

Joomla's CSRF token check is blocking the POST request, or a WAF (Web Application Firewall) is rejecting it.

This is normal for browser-to-API calls that do not include a Joomla session token. Make sure the API endpoint uses ob_start() + exit and does not call $this->checkToken() for public embed endpoints.
If a WAF is active (e.g. Cloudflare, Sucuri), check if POST requests to index.php?option=com_easyworkflows&task=api.* are being blocked. Whitelist the path if needed.
Verify the Joomla site is not in offline mode.

Error AI plugin returns "Server error" or blank response

The AI API request failed — either the API key is invalid, the quota is exhausted, or the AI provider is unreachable.

Check that your API key is entered correctly in the plugin's AI Settings tab — no extra spaces or line breaks.
Test the key directly in the provider dashboard (OpenAI / Groq / Anthropic) to confirm it is active and has remaining quota.
Groq has a free tier with rate limits — if you're on a busy site, switch to a paid key or a different provider.
Check your server's outbound firewall: the server must be able to make HTTPS requests to api.openai.com, api.groq.com, or api.anthropic.com.
Enable PHP error logging and check /logs/error.php in Joomla for the actual exception message.

Issue The plugin loads but looks completely unstyled

The embed CSS is not loading, or a global CSS reset on your site is overriding the plugin styles.

Open DevTools → Elements and inspect the plugin container. If no EasyWorkflows CSS rules appear, the stylesheet failed to load — check the network request for the CSS file.
If styles are being overridden by your theme, use the Custom CSS field in the plugin's Styling tab to add !important overrides for affected properties.
Some page builders (Elementor, Divi) add aggressive CSS resets. Try wrapping the embed tag in a container with all: initial CSS to isolate it.

Issue Email notifications are not being received

The notification email was either not sent or landed in spam.

Check your spam / junk folder first — transactional email from a self-hosted Joomla site often triggers spam filters.
Verify the notification email address is entered correctly in the plugin settings (Settings → Notifications).
Test your Joomla mail configuration at Administrator → System → Global Configuration → Server → Send Test Mail.
If the test mail also fails, your server's PHP mail function may be disabled. Install and configure an SMTP plugin (e.g. Joomla! SMTP) to send via an external mail server.
For plugins that support multiple recipients (e.g. Bug Reporter), separate addresses with , or ;.

Issue Plugin works on desktop but not on mobile

Most mobile-only issues are caused by fixed positioning conflicts or viewport/scroll restrictions.

Floating widgets (WhatsApp, Telegram, Bug Reporter, Countdown bar) use position: fixed. If your site uses transform, filter, or will-change on a parent element, fixed positioning breaks — it becomes relative to that parent instead of the viewport.
Check that your theme's mobile menu or sticky header doesn't have a very high z-index that covers the plugin. Increase the plugin's z-index via Custom CSS if needed.
Test in a real mobile browser via DevTools remote debugging — mobile simulators in browsers may not reproduce the issue accurately.

Issue Changes saved in the dashboard do not appear on the website

The embed script caches settings or the browser is serving a cached version of the page.

Do a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R) on the page where the plugin is embedded.
If you use a CDN (Cloudflare, BunnyCDN), purge the cache for the affected page and for the embed JS file.
Some plugins that call external APIs (RSS Feed, Google Reviews, YouTube) cache their responses server-side. Check the plugin's Cache TTL setting and reduce it or click Clear Cache in the dashboard.
Joomla system cache may also interfere — clear it at Administrator → System → Clear Cache.
